Important MU Gift Annuity Information

The University of Missouri will be lowering gift annuity rates on new gift annuities effective January 1, 2012.

The MU Office of Gift Planning and Endowments announced today that the University is lowering gift annuity rates on new gift annuities effective January 1, 2012 based on the recommendations of the American Council on Gift Annuities (ACGA). This means that through December 30, 2011, you will receive a better rate on your new MU Charitable Gift Annuity than on one you establish after January 1, 2012. MU gift annuities have favorable payment rates that are based on the age of the person or persons who will receive the payments. After January 1, single-life rates will reduce to a range from 4.4 percent to 9 percent for annuitants who are age 60 to 90 and above. Current single-life rates range from 4.8 percent to 9.8 percent for the same age range.

MU has issued gift annuities since 2005 and has always followed ACGA recommended rates. The Mizzou charitable gift annuity gives income for life at an attractive payment rate with tax advantages that help create gifts for MU. A gift annuity can be established with a minimum donation of $10,000. The gift is turned into a stream of income for the lifetime of the annuitant; or for the lifetimes of two annuitants. Ultimately, the annuity will pay the remainder in what can be a significant gift to MU.

If you would like to learn more about how to create a gift annuity with the current higher, better rates, contact the Office of Gift Planning and Endowments at 1-800-970-9977; or email giftplanning@missouri.edu. Gifts of cash to establish gift annuities must be postmarked by December 30, 2011. Gifts of securities require more time.
