The Children's Miracle Network raised more than $225,000 to support the University of Missouri Health Care's Children's Hospital during the two-day Miracle for Kids Radiothon on March 3 and 4. MU Healh Care teamed up again this year with Children's Miracle Network, Missouri Credit Union and the Zimmer Radio Group stations 93.9 FM The Eagle, 94.3 FM KAT Country, 99.3 FM Clear 99 and 106.9 FM Y107 for this fundraiser that supports pediatric patients living in the area.
Listeners pledged to support the hospital's pediatric rehabilitation center with items such as gait trainers, balance beams, mats and a play gym. Pledges were also made to purchase equipment for the new pediatric specialty clinic, including a procedure bed and a tympanometer, which is used to diagnose chronic ear infections.
Michelle Kemp, special events coordinator for MU Health Care, said approximately 150 volunteers assisted with the radiothon. Volunteers included community members, business representatives, family members of patients and numerous University of Missouri Health Care employees. Many physicians, staff, patients and families from Children's Hospital participated in the radiothon and gave radio interviews.
"The Zimmer personalities are amazing," Kemp said. "They do such a good job of connecting with listeners and helping listeners understand what goes on at the hospital. I see the radiothon as an opportunity to really connect the community to the hospital."
If you were unable to tune into the radiothon and would like to make a gift to Children's Hospital, please contact Children's Hospital's development office at (573) 882-0488 or give online at and select "MU Health Care" and then "Children's Miracle Network."
